DIGITAL MEDIA/INTRODUCTION TO DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY    Earn College Credit!!

Media & Design Arts Career Pathway This course will cover design concepts, processes and aesthetic interpretation of creating digital imagery. Using digital cameras and Photo Shop software, students will learn the elements of composition, photo management, and photo editing.  Students will learn about web design and create a web-based portfolio. This course is recommended for those who want to strengthen their digital media skills or may be interested in Yearbook or Journalism.  Benicia High has entered into an articulation agreement with Diablo Valley College (DVC) whereby students who complete this class may receive 3 units college credit (transferable to California State Universities).  This course meets the “F” Fine Arts UC electives admissions requirement.

                                                                    INTRO TO ENGINEERING & ARCHITECTURE                          Earn College Credit!!                     

Prerequisite: completion of Algebra 1 or Integrated Math 1 upon instructor approval      

In this course students explore the fields of engineering and architecture.  Students incorporate sketching, computer aided design (CAD) skills into projects that focus on architectural design, mechanical design, and civil engineering.  Benicia High has entered into an articulation agreement with Diablo Valley College (DVC) whereby students who completed this class may receive 3 units of college credit (transferable to UC and California State Universities).  This course meets the “F” Fine Arts UC electives admissions requirement. ROBOTICS
Prerequisite: completion of Geometry or Integrated Math 2 or upon instructor approval

This course includes hands-on experience in the field of computer programming, electronics, and robotics.  Students create their own video games, and learn basic electronics. AP COMPUTER SCIENCE PRINCIPLES

Prerequisite: completion of Computer Technology and Geometry or Integrated Math 2. Otherwise instructor approval is required.

This advanced placement course introduces students to the concepts of computer science and challenges them to explore how computing and technology can impact the world. Covered topics include the creative aspects of programming, abstractions, algorithms, large data sets, the Internet, cybersecurity concerns, and computing impacts. VIRTUAL ENTERPRISE

Want to major in business or run your own company.  Join Virtual Enterprise! Virtual Enterprise is a simulated business that is set up and run by students to prepare them for working in a business environment.  The students determine the nature of their business, its products and services, its management and structure, and learn the daily operations of a business under the guidance of a teacher.  Emphasis will be placed in using current business software packages and the internet for business transactions.

iQUEST – For Seniors Only, New Course

Prerequisite: Application and Interview, must have a specific interest area, consent of instructor.

iQuest will provide students an opportunity to learn and explore an area of interest or passion and connect classroom learning of the world of work.  Students are empowered to take ownership of their education and develop an internship or self-study that connects to their individual needs and interests.  The practical experience gained through this program will enhance their high school education beyond the traditional classroom.

Hospitality

CULINARY ARTS 1

Culinary Arts 1 is a yearlong course that introduces students to culinary terminology, food safety and sanitation, culinary tools and equipment, basic cooking techniques and math skills. Students will learn aspects of the food and hospitality industry. In addition, there is a focus on leadership and communication skills to effectively work in a small group with a division of tasks and efficiently prepare a recipe from start to finish. Nutrition and healthy eating will be emphasized throughout the year. Semester 2 will emphasize Global Cuisines which will include ethnic choices from around the world. A cake decorating competition will take place in the spring.  Also, at no charge, students have the opportunity to receive a Food Handler’s License after completing online instruction and passing the exam.

Prerequisite: Culinary Arts 1

This is a yearlong course where students expand their knowledge and skills learned in Culinary Arts 1. Foods prepared will be simple to complex. Students will continue to learn about proper nutrition, seasonal foods, safety and sanitation. Students will learn in greater detail about the food industry, food regulation and job skills that will be helpful in culinary careers. Students will have the opportunity to visit a culinary school and at no charge students can receive a Food Handler’s License after completing online instruction and passing the exam.  Benicia High has entered into an articulation agreement with Diablo Valley College (DVC) where students who complete this class may receive 2 units of college credit by passing the required tests.

CLOTHING CONSTRUCTION & FASHION DESIGN 1 & 2

Clothing Construction is offered to all students interested in learning and applying their creativity to clothing construction techniques and design. Course content includes sewing machine operation, wardrobe design, personal image, and the sewing of garments and other simple projects.
