The second and final round of the Congressional Art Competition has ended with Benicia High School’s Stella Li winning the top prize in the 5th Congressional District. The 5th District is enormous and includes large portions of Sonoma, Napa, Yolo, Contra Costa, and Lake counties. Many of the competing high schools are among the best Arts schools in the country. Representative Mike Thompson’s office organized the competition that awards the winner with the opportunity to hang their work in the Congressional tunnel for a year, and a free trip to Washington DC for the student and a parent. Stella Li’s piece, "Memories of my Grandmother", is a lovely drawing of a remembered family moment done in Mr. Frazier’s Advanced Placement Art Studio class. “Stella’s work is a testament to the value of fundamentals in art and a credit to her school.” said Mr. Frazier, “We are super excited to have this chance to recognize one of our own on the national stage!” There will be a gala awards ceremony in Washington DC this summer to honor the Congressional winners from all 50 states.
