Student Departure / Pick-up
Student Departure Policy During the Instructional Day
Authorized Pick-up: ONLY parents and/or legal guardians are authorized to pick up students from school during the instructional day (before student dismissal). This does NOT include people listed as “Emergency Contacts.”
If a parent or legal guardian needs to designate someone to pick up their student, they must provide a written notice with their signature. The written notice must be submitted to the school office in advance or at the time of pick-up. This notice MUST include:
- Full name of the individual authorized to pick up the student.
- The date on which this authorization is valid.
For Benicia High School, a parent or legal guardian may provide written notice of student departure that allows the student to drive themselves, with the date and signature as required above.
Anyone picking up a student during the school day, including parents, legal guardians, and designated individuals, MUST show the office staff a valid photo ID. The photo ID must match the name provided or in school records. Without ID, the school will not release the student.
- At Benicia High School, when picking up a student during the school day, park in a Visitor parking space, NOT along the curb in front of the school as we need to keep that space clear for emergency response vehicles.
In emergency situations where advance written notice is not possible, the school administration may accept verbal authorization from the parent or guardian, provided that identity verification can be conducted via phone or other means.
Please share this information with your student(s) so that they understand this change. When the students receive a pass to leave during the school day, they are expected to report to the Main Office where they will wait for their parent/guardian/designee rather than proceed directly outside.
