MARCH 11th COMMUNICATION
Hello Benicia High School Families:
This morning, Superintendent Dr. Young sent a message to all families and staff to announce the BUSD Governing Board’s decision to reopen schools last night. I want to follow up to provide additional information specific to Benicia High School and your plans.
The Board approved reopening Benicia High School on Monday, April 12th, with the hybrid model. This means that families who chose to return in person will be assigned to either the Blue Group (attending school on Monday and Wednesday) or the Gold Group (attending school on Tuesday and Thursday). Those assignments are based on the student’s last name and will be sent out next week.
Families who selected to remain virtual, or families who made no choice and were defaulted to virtual, will continue virtual learning for the remainder of the year and will not return to campus.
If you would like to request a change for your student in terms of finishing the year virtually or returning in person, please use the links provided below. We will use a waitlist and move students in order of their request only if it is possible as we do have limitations of the number of students in a classroom. If we are able to accommodate your request, we will email you with that information.
I want to acknowledge this is a reopening of school with new guidelines and practices – not a return to “normal” or school as we knew it before. We will be working to share and reinforce those expectations with all of our school community so that this is as positive an experience as possible.
I will be sending out more information in additional emails over the next few weeks so please continue to check your email for the latest information. We are making plans for Freshmen Mini-Orientation tours for any 9th graders returning to school in person on Friday, April 9th, and will share that out soon also.

MARCH 16th COMMUNICATION
Hello Benicia High Students & Families,
We want to provide you with additional information about reopening on April 12th with the Hybrid Model. Last week, we sent an email to confirm our reopening date and to notify families of their student’s status of remaining virtual or returning in person based on the information we had at that time. We also provided the link to request a change and are working to accommodate those requests if/as space allows.
This week, we want to let our students who are returning in person know what group they will be in and what days they will attend school. We have grouped students so that we make sure that we are under the limit of the number of students in a classroom, to meet safety guidelines.
Students with last names A-K will be in the Blue Group and will attend school on Mondays and Wednesdays.
Students with last names L-Z will be in the Gold Group and will attend school on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
We encourage all families to review the Bell Schedule that will begin on April 12th – it is slightly different from our current schedule based on a change of passing periods and lunch. Students’ schedules of classes and their teachers will NOT change.
We will offer a mini-orientation for 9th grade students and students who are new to BHS this year, who are returning in person, on Friday, April 9th. A separate email with information and a link to sign up for this mini-orientation will be sent out soon to in-person families only.
For our students returning in person, Benicia Unified School District will send out a consent form to parents/guardians that is required to be completed before you can return to campus. Please have your parents/guardians look for this email over the next few weeks.
Students who are returning in person, who have a Physical Education class in their schedule, please plan ahead to wear clothing that you can wear for your class and wear or bring appropriate gym shoes. We will not have access to locker rooms for Physical Education classes for the remainder of the school year.
We continue to remind everyone that this is not a return to “normal” or school as we knew it before. This is a reopening of school with new guidelines and practices that we will share and reinforce with all of our school community so that this is as positive an experience as possible. These guidelines are based on safety for everyone and on our school motto: Panthers R.I.S.E. which stands for Respect, Include, Support, and Engage. There will be different expectations on campus and we will provide signs around school and a video will be sent out the week of March 29th to help students learn about what they can expect when they return to campus and our new practices.
We want to thank everyone for all of their support and patience this year. We are very excited to welcome our students back to BHS!
