ALL SCHOOLS IN THE BENICIA UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT WILL BE CLOSED TOMORROW (FRIDAY), NOVEMBER 16th, 2018.

Our hearts go out to the victims of the Butte County fires. We understand that you may have questions and concerns about the effect the fires are having on our local air quality. Unfortunately, the smoky air is becoming increasingly common throughout California.

According to Dr. Bela Matyas, Director of Solano County Public Health, air quality is a dynamic process that is affected by the amount of particulate matter from pollutants such as material burned by fire, the amount and direction of winds, and other weather conditions such as humidity and pressure. Our school districts and the Solano County Office of Education are using the Air Quality Index (AQI) to monitor our local air quality.

Because of concerns regarding our air quality, the Benicia Unified School District schools will be closed tomorrow, Friday, November 16th, 2018.

We are continuing to monitor the air quality and will communicate with you if there are any changes.
Sincerely,
Lisette Estrella-Henderson
Solano County Superintendent of Schools
